That reminds me of a series I once read, Tortall. There was a cat that was the pet of a goddess that was sent to earth and when it died, it became a constellation. I can't remember its name, though.

I *believe* you are referring to Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness quartet, and the cat Faithful. The black one with purple eyes? <3 (It was set in Tortall. :D0 :aww:
